This is a link to KC's Soundcloud page. It has songs she liked. She would play these songs when she stayed with me. She would tease me a lot because I like Jazz and music from Brazil and Cuba. I remember she would say "Jeez Geordie, don't you have any music with English lyrics?". It would actually take me a while to find something. So she got into the habit of just opening this page and playing the songs there.

Actually there is one song I used to sing to her all the time. A song by The Smiths, an 80's band we both liked. The song is Please, Please, Please, Let Me get what I want. Every single time I sang it to her, she would hold me and put her head on my shoulders while I sang.

Good times for a change
See, the luck I've had
Can make a good man
Turn bad

So please please please
Let me, let me, let me
Let me get what I want
This time

Haven't had a dream in a long time
See, the life I've had
Can make a good man bad

So for once in my life
Let me get what I want
Lord knows, it would be the first time
Lord knows, it would be the first time

Videos of KC at Burning Man

Videos of KC Mitchell at Burning Man. The first one is of KC dancing with a friend. The second one is KC and myself, Geordie, "fighting" in the Thunderdome. It was something she wanted to do, and she asked me to fight with her, so I did. Of course it wasn't real fighting. It was a lot of fun.

Costumes

KC Mitchell really loved costumes, especially Halloween, but had costumes for all occasions. She was very creative and would always make her own costumes, searching out just the right pieces from Etsy and other places.

KC's costumes were always scary and frightening, hardly ever cute and never the "sexy nurse" kind. KC loved scary and frightening imagery, which is ironic because her personality and everyday dress wasn't like that at all. She always dressed nicely with great color combination. However KC's costumes were really something else. They always showed incredible attention to detail and creativity. Frequently she would have the best and most interesting costume at the party.

I remember when I would visit her she would tell me how she found the perfect set of wings for a costume she was designing and tell me where the idea came from for the costume and why she was dressing that way. KC would get so excited about it. It showed just how much forethought she would put into her costumes and how much she enjoyed them.

Perfume

KC Mitchell always smelled so nice. I would look forward to seeing her just to enjoy her scent. KC's favorite perfume was Light Blue by Dolce and Gabbana. I could be anywhere and if I smelled that perfume it would remind me of her. It still does, and probably always will.

I remember that lovely scent would linger in my home whenever she visited. I would smell it on my clothes after she hugged me, and it would linger on my pillows.

I bought her a bottle of perfume this past Valentine's day at Bloomingdales. I was excited to give it to her. She was so surprised to get it, shocked really. KC was always so humble and never wanted to inconvenience anybody or cost them money. I was looking forward to smelling that scent on her for a long time.

Her brother Jimi was kind enough to tell me that KC had told him about the bottle of perfume I got her when she visited him in March. She wore the perfume the last night I saw her. I know she wanted to make me happy by wearing it.

I first met KC...

I first met KC Mitchell early in the morning on July 30th, 2006. The San Francisco Marathon was running down our street, 27th avenue between California and Lake. My friends and I were cheering the runner on from my fire escape which served as a balcony. KC lived almost directly across the street. I remember looking across the street and seeing this beautiful woman with short blond hair and a brilliant smile sitting on a stool in her window watching the racers run by.

It took only a few minutes until she turned and looked at m friends and I. I can say I loved her from the first moment I saw her face. Anyone that has met or known KC has felt the warmth radiating from her eyes and the light from her smile.

Eventually we waved her over and she walked across the street and joined us. Such a happy impromptu party at 7:30 in the morning. I had made mimosas and had music playing and we were cheering the runners from my balcony, my old friends were there, and now my new friend and neighbor KC. I never ever expected thinking about this particular morning would make me cry. KC and I would tell each other this story fondly, and now that she is gone, her other friends tell me this story because KC had told them.

Eventually she invited me and my friends over to her apartment. It was a cute one bedroom on the first floor with a large window that overlooked the street. I was impressed by the amount of plants she had all in perfect health and tasteful pots. The I looked on the wall and saw it; KC's most impressive painting "Riding a motorcycle in the rain". It blew me a way. I can still see this painting in my mind: it had a lot of texture, either from plaster or bits glued to the canvas, most of the round, but some long and thin. The color was mainly grey, dark to light with a little bit of tan coming through on the edges of the texture shapes. The memory of it still haunts me, as it was always prominently hung wherever KC lived.

Eventually we began talking, I remember being so enamored of this woman with the short blond hair and shining brown eyes. It turned out that we bothed liked Adult Swim cartoons and especially The Venture Brothers cartoon. This is my very first email to KC

Hey KC,
This is Geordie from across the street.  Had a great time at your place with all the espresso and stuff.
Looking forward to watching Venture Brothers and Adult Swimm with another fan..I'll give you a ring at 9:00
or so.  My phone is 221-0991.....................Geordie
Coincidentally it is also one of my last emails to KC. The day after I last saw KC and had finally asked her to be my girlfriend I sent it again to her out of nostalgia for the day we began our friendship for we were now meant to begin a relationship together. This is what I sent on March 24, two days before KC left.

I hope she knew what I meant when I sent it to her. I hope it made her think of that day in the summer of 2006 as fondly as I always will. I miss you KC. I miss you.
